Paul Grain (aka Dru Korab) is warming up the room with some handpicked soul vinyl followed by a tour of some of classic and rare BOOM-BAP: a sub-genre of hip-hop that dominated the East Coast during the late 1980s and early 1990s, defined by its hard-hitting drums and gritty, sampled-based production. The name is an onomatopoeia for the sound of the kick drum (boom) and the snare (bap), often featuring jazzy, soulful loops and an emphasis on lyricism.
